The Thinking Codex is a thinking project that sets out to re-examine the oldest questions of philosophy in the light of the newest technology. When a machine can produce fluent language, classify people, remember everything, and present answers with confidence, have the questions changed, or only the context?
The project examines twelve philosophers, from Descartes to Bergson, and asks: what happens to their central ideas when artificial intelligence embodies, inverts, or empties them of content? Each philosopher holds one core inversion, a point where AI does not merely use the old idea but turns it on its head.
This is not a project against AI. Nor is it a project for AI. It is a project built on the belief that this moment in history, when new technology shifts the conditions of thought, is precisely the moment when old philosophy becomes newly relevant. Not as a historical curiosity, but as a necessary tool for understanding what is happening now.
Each philosopher is presented in two forms: a short version that captures the central inversion in a few paragraphs, and a full essay that goes deeper into why the idea matters now, what AI changes, and what question remains open.
Ignited Labs
The project was created by Ignited Labs, a studio for thinking and technology that seeks the meeting point between deep ideas and the practical world. We believe that the big questions should not remain in the academy, and that technology should not be built without big questions.
The Thinking Codex is one of several projects of ours that aim to restore depth to the public conversation about technology, consciousness, and society. We work on tools, texts, and spaces where people can think slowly, ask deeply, and confront the implications of what we are building.
If this way of thinking interests you, you are welcome to read, share, and keep asking. This project is an invitation to think, not a conclusion.
